ZEBCARE has designed and installed a unique toxicology setup for an Italian private research company. The system will be used to conduct several tests, like for example the Fish and Early-Life Stage Toxicity Test (FELS). For this kind of tests zebrafish is commonly used as model organism.
The system consists of two tank rack connected to a header tank and a water preparation system. Each rack consists of a temperature regulated water bath in which 14 aquaria are placed. An external heating system connected to each water bath is used to maintain a constant water temperature. The rack is equipped with LED lighting. The system is designed to allow two different water levels within the same tank corresponding with respectively a 4L and a 10L water volume. Peristaltic pumps add test substances to each tank.
This systems is a flow through system. Special flowmeters allow precise regulation of the flow through the tanks. A header tank is connected to the water supply piping maintains a constant water pressure, thus ensuring an equal flow through all flowmeters.
Along with the toxicology research setupĀ we also installed a water treatment system for preparation of system water of desired quality from incoming reversed osmosis water. Using a pH buffer- and salt dosing system the incoming water is continuously mixed in the water storage tank (1000L) until the desired water quality is achieved.
